Keywords and Search Terms: Using Wikipedia for Research

Using Wikipedia for Research

Why Can't I Use Wikipedia as a Cited Source?

Due to the open-access nature of Wikipedia, the information is not always credible and susceptible to tampering. It is often difficult to determine the author of the articles and their credentials. However, Wikipedia is a good way to build foundational knowledge about a topic and to familiarize yourself with relevant keywords, people and events pertaining to a topic. Wikipedia cannot be used as a source for academic research, but it is a good first step to learning more about a topic.
